Troubleshooting

Find a quick fix when something doesn’t work as expected.

Symptom: Hotkey doesn’t respond, “Accessibility required” banner in Settings or onboarding.

Cause: macOS requires accessibility permission for global hotkeys and simulated paste.

Fix:

  1. Open Settings → General in the desktop app.
  2. Click Grant permission (or onboarding step 1).
  3. Enable fluesta under System Settings → Privacy & Security → Accessibility.
  4. Restart fluesta if needed.

Windows doesn’t require additional permissions.

Symptom: Press shortcut but recording doesn’t start.

Possible causes & fixes:

CauseFix
Not signed inSign in to the desktop app
Wrong hotkeyCheck Settings → General — default: Fn (Mac) or Ctrl + Win (Windows)
Fn mode disabled (Mac)Use Fn key or re-enable Fn mode
Conflict with another appChoose another combo (avoid Ctrl+Shift+D)
No accessibility (Mac)See section above

Symptom: Transcription succeeds but text doesn’t appear in the target field.

Fix:

  1. Check if Auto-paste is enabled in Settings → General.
  2. If disabled: text is in the clipboard — paste manually (Cmd+V / Ctrl+V).
  3. If enabled but failed: fluesta copies to clipboard and shows a notification — paste manually.
  4. Some apps (e.g. secure fields) block simulated paste.

Symptom: Dictation is no longer possible or the app prompts you to upgrade.

Fix:

  1. Check your plan in the web dashboard under Settings → Billing.
  2. If your Pro trial has ended, subscribe to Pro or Team.
  3. See Plans for available options.

Symptom: Invite link no longer works.

Fix:

  1. Ask the team admin to create a new invitation.
  2. Ensure free seats are available.
  3. Sign in with the account the invitation was sent to.

Edge or SmartScreen blocks the Windows download

Section titled “Edge or SmartScreen blocks the Windows download”

Symptom: Edge warns about the installer, or Windows shows “Windows protected your PC”.

Cause: SmartScreen only recognizes new apps after many downloads. That is a safety prompt, not a fluesta defect.

Fix: Follow the Windows SmartScreen guide (keep the file, then Run anyway).

Windows won’t launch — MSVCP140_1.dll missing

Section titled “Windows won’t launch — MSVCP140_1.dll missing”

Symptom: After install, Windows shows a system error that MSVCP140_1.dll was not found. fluesta does not start.

Cause: Some Windows PCs do not already have the Visual C++ runtime. Newer installers place those files next to fluesta.exe. Older builds that are already installed do not.

Fix (builds already installed):

  1. Download the official Visual C++ Redistributable x64 from Microsoft.
  2. Install it, then launch fluesta again.

Do not download the DLL from third-party websites.

Symptom: Empty transcription or error after a very short recording.

Fix:

  • Hold the hotkey for at least half a second and speak clearly.
  • Check the microphone in system settings.
  • Choose a fixed language in Settings → Transcription instead of “Automatic”.
